Zikhuliseni Skills Development House

Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day…Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.

Through BMC a project plan was developed with the objective to stimulate economic growth through income generating projects in Diepsloot.

Objectives:

  • To Provide Skills Training to people form the Diepsloot community
  • Involvement of Church Members as Volunteers
  • Involvement of Business Owners
  • Provide Skills Programme Certificates as proof of competence

Through donations and fundraising initiatives  Zikhuliseni has become a vibrant, thriving skills development centre within the Diepsloot Community. Women are taught how to sew, with the view to becoming self-sustainable, either to be employed using their new found skill or to set up small businesses to sell their goods. There is a diversity of skills training available, from computers, beadwork, bricklaying and a vegetable garden school. There is a three month welding apprenticeship plan where men from Diepsloot can apply for the programme, they are trained and either placed within companies or encouraged to form small business after completing the training.

The goal of this project is to enable every person in Diepsloot to become self-sufficient through providing training in a number of skills and on graduation, where possible; trainees are supplied with equipment to begin their own business. During the past years the trainees earned nearly R250.000 through selling their products and skills.
